Luxurious Yachting lifestyle has always been related to the glamour, style icons, and elegance. There’s nothing better than to feel the wind in your hair and the sun on your skin as you sail through an incredible sea, all while enjoying a cocktail on the deck of a gorgeous superyacht. With all this nautical passion and lifestyle in mind, Luxury Yachts brings you our biggest inspirations for the nautical world, starting with the newest Cruise Collection by Chanel and followed by some of the most iconic stars of the 50s and 60s that have influenced the nautical lifestyle to this day.

Chanel Cruise Collection 2020

Following in Karl Lagerfeld’s footsteps but trying to leave a mark of her own, Virginie Viard’s first collection as Chanel’s new Creative Director was laid-back and relaxed whilst staying true to the brand’s classic style: lots of skirt suits, bows, and ballet flats. But there were some mood swings as well, with many wide pants, blouses and even tweed jackets worn over leggings.

The opening look of the show was respectful but, at the same time, portrayed how the liberated and young Chanel herself would have dressed in 2020, with a black jacket and wide-leg pants. On the other hand, the final look was a clear homage to Karl Lagerfeld, with the model dressed in a halter dress with an Edwardian collar, in the late designer’s trademark black and white.

The collection was presented at the Grand Palais and the show was quite different from the iconic spectacles Lagerfeld gotten the world used to. Viard presented a simple train station, with signs that directed to Europe’s most coveted vacation destinations, such as Venice or the French Riviera, both perfect to strut the Cruise Collection on a jaw-dropping superyacht.

Grace Kelly

Grace Kelly made history on April 1956 when she married into royalty and set sail for a dreamy honeymoon around the Mediterranean on an incredible superyacht. She is undeniably one of the most glamorous stars to ever be featured on our screens and this classic yacht represented her presence perfectly. The yacht was gifted to the royal couple as a wedding present by Aristotle Onassis and, today, the refurbished M/Y Grace cruises the crystal clear waters of the Galapagos Islands, where you can enjoy its amazing wooden deck.

Brigitte Bardot

Considered one of the world’s sexiest actresses ever, Brigitte Bardot made her way to St. Tropez in the 50s to star in “And God Created Woman”, a movie that propelled her and the peaceful fishing town into stardom. Nowadays, thousands of visitors walk the beaches of St. Tropez each summer, with the French village continuing to proper thanks to its image as one of the world’s most glamorous sailing destinations. The now-iconic picture of Bardot on a Riva Aquarama speedboat represents what nautical living is all about: effortless elegance and luxury.

Sophia Loren

Sophia Loren is often referred to as a ‘cinema treasure’ and, to this day, still radiates allure like no other. The actress shot to stardom in the late 1950s thanks to a contract with Paramount that secured her image as a poster-girl for Mediterranean glamour. Loren often sails the waters of the Italian coastline and is even asked to christen mega-ships. Her personal radiance mixed with an incredibly designed boat make for the perfect combination.

John F. Kennedy

Former American President John F. Kennedy’s favorite way to escape the chaotic life in the White House was to set sail on his beloved yacht, the Honey Fitz, nicknamed the ‘White House on the water’. This incredible wooden vessel was built in 1931 and served five American presidents, from Harry S. Truman to JFK, whose wife, Jackie installed the boat’s very first color television in the 60s. Both Kennedy and Jackie exude glamour, with Kennedy being considered one of the most handsome presidents of all time and Jackie is a style icon to this day. Both are a major inspiration when it comes to nautical style and aesthetics.

Audrey Hepburn

The iconic “Breakfast at Tiffany’s” star had her hearts from the very beginning of her career. Always stylish from head to toe, Audrey’s style at sea was always impeccable and inspiring. After filming “Roman Holiday” with Gregory Peck in 1953, Hepburn resided in the Italian capital for over 20 years. Often spending summers sailing around the Mediterranean, Audrey’s classic sailing style is still imitated today by women all over the world.

Elizabeth Taylor

The incredible Elizabeth Taylor loved to sail and looked incredible doing it. Taylor’s husband, Richard Burton, purchased their Edwardian motor yacht, the Kalizma, for her in 1967. After renting the iconic boat, the couple bought it and had it completely refurbished. Nearly every week, the yacht was moored at one of the beautiful ports along the Mediterranean and boarded by famous friends and guests who indulged in lavish meals as they sailed the stunning coastline together.
