There is a large number of design events that aim to promote these industries, that are so unique and creative. In these design events, craftsmanship is presented and reflected on every showcase, at a worldwide level. The Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show (FLIBS) is about to have its 60th edition on a set of five days filled with a lot of action, featuring around 1200 boats on display across seven locations in Florida. During that period, the city of Fort Lauderdale (known often as the “Yachting Capital of the World”) will live and breathe the true nautical lifestyle in what is currently considered as the largest in-water boat show on earth. The yearly design event will be displaying exclusive products including the industry’s latest boats and yachts of varied sizes, alongside some worldwide debuts. In FLIBS you can find a variety of attendants: from yacht builders and its designers to even some exotic cars and brokerage yachts. Don’t miss this incredible event from October 30th to November 3rd, 2019.

The Monaco Yacht Show (also known as MYS) is also a returning event that will be turning the attentions of all yacht fans to the iconic Port Hercules located in the principality of Monaco. This event is a perfect representation of the pinnacle of luxury boating, representing a spot where many prestige superyacht builders, award-winning yacht designers, as well as many bespoke luxury suppliers can gather in order to present some of the most recent and impactful launches of the industry this year.

One of the most anticipated initiatives of the event is the Inaugural Gala Event, set to happen on September 24th and will be a gathering for a set of 400 privileged guests and other relevant elements of the yachting social elite who will be distinguishing the greatest luxury vessels that will be making their debut on the event right on the first day. Another returning initiative of MYS is the annual Monaco Yacht Summit, which has been informing and educating yachting clients and enthusiasts since 2016. This part of the main event has three main purposes: the discussion of current topics in superyachting; a sharing of unbiased insight from several industry experts; and lastly a networking initiative to gather several industry professionals. From the 25th to the 28th of September don’t miss the novelties which will come from 2019’s edition of Monaco Yacht Show.

The fourth edition of the BOAT International and Blue Marine Foundation’s Ocean Awards has already selected its winners. The nominees were varied, came from several places across the globe and had a set of interesting backgrounds.

The winner of the Local Hero Award is Zoona Nassem, known for being the Co-founder and owner of Moodhu Bulhaa Dive Centre on Villingili Island on the Maldives, as well as for her campaigns centered around Ocean conservation and teaching Maldivian women to learn to dive. The Science Award, on the other hand, went to David Kroodsma, the current Director of research, Global Fishing Watch, known for tracking more than 70,000 large industrial fishing vessels between 2012 and 2016. When it comes to the Innovation Award, this year two entries were considered: Dr. Anne Kapuscinski (director of the Coastal Science and Policy Program and professor of environmental studies at UCSC), and the new Silent 64 vessel from Silent Yachts, noticeable for being a luxury solar-hybrid ocean-going catamaran. Lewis Pugh, environmental campaigner, and former maritime lawyer won the Visionary Award for his series of campaigns centered around ocean protection. Another relevant winner of the Public Awareness Award was The Ocean Race, a Volvo-sponsored contest which has pledged to inspire the nautical community to join them in their quest for cleaner seas. Lastly, earning the Judge’s Special Award were the Alliance for the Conservation of Biodiversity, Culture, and Territory, as well as the Sub-Antarctic Biocultural Conservation Program, both initiatives being focused on the preservation of the natural habitats of specific species.

Previously known as the Superyacht Design Symposium, the Superyacht Design Festival will be returning in February of 2020, taking place at Cortina d’Ampezzo, Italy. This initiative will be a gathering of some of the world’s leading shipyard CEOs, superyacht designers, industry figures alongside yacht owners and other relevant guests from the luxury community. The best way to define the Superyacht Design Festival is as an inclusive networking initiative that gathers some of the most famous and relevant key figures and yacht icons in the industry. It will also be an amazing initiative for relevant topics in yacht design such as discussing World-changing design, haptic technology and superyachts and the impact that external influences can have on yacht design.

Taking place during the Superyacht Design Symposium, the BOAT International Design & Innovation Awards have their nominations open for the 2020 awards. The initiative will be taking place alongside the Young Designer of the Year Award, on the first night. The nominees will be awarded in accordance with categories such as Best Naval Architecture, Best Motor Yacht Interior Design, Outstanding Lifestyle Feature, Best New Series, Innovation of the Year and many more. On a special side note: there will also be a Lifetime Achievement Award for a special designer who made an impact on the yachting industry.

 

World Superyacht Awards

Another initiative set to open the year of 2020 (specifically in the 15th and 16th of May) with a series of highlights for the yachting community is definitely the 15th annual edition of The World Superyacht Awards. This year initiative will occur in the city of London, after having passed by cities such as Venice, Amsterdam, Istanbul, and Florence. These awards will aim to recognize the ingenuity, innovation, and craftsmanship of some the most remarkable luxury yachts found across the Globe. It’s an event composed by an independent panel of current and former superyacht owners and attended by the elite of the superyacht world. The initiative will recognize the main features of superyachts launched in 2019, conceding a chance for owners, design teams and yacht builders to be awarded a coveted Neptune trophy.
