Meet Aqua, the world’s first hydrogen-powered superyacht, that could be surfing the waters very soon! Behind this innovative project is the Dutch yacht-design company, Sinot, that shares the goal of establishing a more eco-friendly yacht design industry. Without further ado, Luxury Yachts is about to present the most recent and innovative creation, that stands as a transformation of the future.

In collaboration with Lateral Naval Architects, Sinot Yacht Architecture & Design created the innovative Aqua Superyacht. This amazing project measures 112 meters and will be powered entirely by liquid hydrogen and fuel-cell technology, which essentially means water will be its only emission. This unbelievable superyacht features state-of-the-art facilities, and operates at a top speed of 17 knots, with a range of 3,750 nautical miles.

This breakthrough project was present at this year’s last edition of the Monaco Yacht Show, and it was definitely one of the main highlights of the whole event. According to the statement of Sander Sinot, one of the head designers of Sinot Yacht Architecture & Design, they “took inspiration from the lifestyle of a discerning, forward-looking owner, the fluid versatility of water and cutting-edge technology, to combine this in a 112-meter superyacht with truly innovative features”.

Their biggest challenge was to “implement fully operational liquid hydrogen and fuel cells in a true superyacht that is not only groundbreaking in technology, but also in design and aesthetics”, but this yacht design company proved that they were up to this challenge, and better yet, capable of exceeding expectations.

Aqua’s technology system will rely on two 28-ton vacuum isolated tanks, which are to be stored at temperatures as low as -253 C. The liquified hydrogen is converted into electrical energy by proton exchange membrane (PEM) fuel cells. At the lower decks, the usual parameters for propulsion, range, and speed have been translated into a complete hydrogen-electric system.

To the design of this superyacht, it was also important to perfectly balance the client’s privacy and also the ability to establish an accessible and visible view of the ocean. Many of the incredible features include an on-board infinity pool and helipad, along with a spa and swimming pool. Within the Aqua, there’s also a hydro-massage room, a yoga space, a swim platform and a beach deck close to the waterline.
