25 years of design experience of both Gillian Brown and Rob Wetzels is the studio’s base for the future in which they realize a dream to create excellent interiors. The team is an international group of 6-8 talented and enthusiastic professionals with different yet complimentary backgrounds.
How and why did you get into the design Industry? Where did you study?
Wetzels Brown Partners is established over ten years ago between interior designer Gillian Brown and architect Rob Wetzels. Gillian Brown qualified in Interior Design at Middlesex University in London in 1987, Rob Wetzels studied in Eindhoven TUE in 1988.
Yacht design and private interiors combined with a background in the world of luxury retail and leisure is the base for the bespoke interiors we now design.
We always aim to create the best for our clients and realize a broad variety of projects throughout the world in six spoken languages.
What do you love about being a designer?
Gillian has a passion for design, especially found in the detail and believes it is this sense of fun which is the key to success in projects. Rob loves to create spaces that work, surprise with new elements and to practically realize a design.
Where do you draw your inspiration from?
Inspiration for each project is different and answers each unique client brief. We are inspired by both natural forms of textures whilst at the same time the detail of craftsmanship in materials can generate that deep sense of luxury.
What are some of your most popular designs/projects? Tell us a bit about some of your designs/projects and what you love about them. What’s your favourite and why?
Chrisco / CNB100 – for the teamwork and the sense of creating something special.
Quote from Luca Brenta:
“Chrisco; Again an incredible project, wonderful Owners…great team work. It happens, from time to time, to be involved in a project which is simply a step above. It may sound simple, but to combine talent, driving force and a lot of hard work from a great number of people of different nationalities and cultures is somewhat magic. This is when something outstanding can be made.”
Is there anything exciting that you are working on at the moment that you can tell us about?
A modern Art Deco design keeping the authentic spirit at its heart.
What colours, textures and furniture pieces do you love the most?
A calm neutral base with a play on textures and highlights of bold rich colour to add happiness. The furniture pieces we love most have personality and longevity, by which we mean they are neither bland nor trendy but demonstrate refinement and craftsmanship… with a little of the unexpected.
What is your philosophy on design and life?
The philosophy which drives our design: to take contemporary design and tailor it to the individuality of the client. We believe your interior style should enhance your lifestyle not that your lifestyle should adapt to fit your design style!
Our focus is to create an exciting space with the minimum of different elements: functionality, flexibility and attention to detail define our approach to marine design.
How would you describe your design style? How varied are your designs? Do you have a signature touch with your designs?
Comfort style is open and fresh, modern and innovative. High design integrity with human face. At heart we love wonderful materials in a calm and comfortable setting – simplicity is a quality. We are approachable, we think about our proposals and work through new ideas to make them work. With the play of textures, interconnected spaces, light, accessories and the colour palette your interior can take on vibrancy and timeless design. Each design is different yet there is a light, uncluttered comfortable and liveable feel common to all our projects.
What are your design dreams/goals?
To pursue our dream to create interiors with excellence on sea and land and continue on our solid base apply our growing knowledge and keep our current openness to different challenges. Each project is a development of the last, we move onwards and upwards. Never feeling “we made it, we can stop trying now”, the future is an exciting project.
Describe yourself in three words.
